Mode C is as much for Calvin as it is for Chaos, as much for Cool as it is for Cold, as much for Class as it is for Crass.

Mode C is a way of life, the Calvin way of life which I am so fascinated by as to keep trying to make it my own way of life. But what exactly is Calvin's way of life, you ask...and I say that there are no clear answers to this one.

I strongly believe, however, that almost all the seriously critical fundamental concepts of life, they are just the bogies under Calvin's bed that he is afraid of. Everyhting else...Miss Wormwood, Susie, Mom and Dad, and of course above all, Hobbes...aren't they all merely the means that he uses to attack these bogies?

It is nothing, therefore, but the perspective of each of these players on the stage of Calvin's dramatic life that helps him fight these bogies and move on in his own unique way...listening to all but doing only what finally makes sense to his own individuality. This is what comes closest, I guess, to the Calvin way of leading one's life...

Here she comes...

A whiff of fresh air covers all my senses, her perfume lingering in the air as she walks past, leaving me spellbound and my eyes riveted, waiting for more. The speech gets slurred and the ears tingle with her rhythmic laughter. To touch her seems but, a distant dream and one that forms the promise of what heaven could be.

Life is a dream when she is around, a dream that I never want to wake up from. The sparkle in her eyes and the mischief that spills forth has the potential to lighten up the gloomiest of corners. As she smiles, the lines around her mouth curve in a unique pattern with the slight up-tilt of the face giving the appearance of a half-smirk. She plays around with her expressions, her bright, playful eyes and her disarming but up-to-no-good smile winning my heart all over again.

A slight shake of the head causes her tresses to come up ahead, covering most of her face. When she is not doing much with her facial movements (rarely that it happens), the hair sits quietly by the side but alert and seeming to have a life of its own, waiting to be revived and ready for action. A strong nose with a chin to match up to it tell me how determined she is, determined enough to take care of everything around, including a somewhat incorrigible me.

Her voice spells magic the moment it leaves her mouth, encapsulating the most intelligent of remarks and expressing the most gold-hearted of feelings. Conversations with her actually end up in disservice to the feelings behind her words as they so often get hidden behind the sheer melody of her voice and the poetry of her sentences. The sweetness-personified-child in her comes to the fore at times and at others, it is the girls-just-wanna-have-fun persona that is dominant; while there are times when the no-nonsense-mother in her takes over.

She has the strength to not just turn her own life around but make the world a better place for all those close to her...the character to move the most stubborn of obstacles away, the almost there-by-default determination to spread happiness around her, and the sensitivity to know what is going to make people around her happy. Whether at work or at home, she is the energy that gives and nourishes life, not ever to be slighted or underestimated, but to be celebrated and conserved at all times.

As she thus makes an appearance in my dreams, strolling gently with hair cruising along and the free flowing laughter providing the momentum to the sails of her life, I want to just keep floating. The heart keeps bobbing up and down, inside and out like the oars that her voice provides. The anchor has been pulled up and her free spirit is ready to soar and take me along with her. I am excited as despite the destination being unknown, the journey promises to be more rewarding that any other could ever be.

Love is all around

It is that time of the year again...two years since it happened and two years since I have been ruing it...did it really have to be like that...I don't know but then again that is life...you can't really hedge all the risks. Having operated almost always in the binary mode (all or none), I could not have done anything else, anyways.

Enough of that, actually! Instead of cribbing about what happened, I thought that I would try and look around at people enamored and engrossed in one completely different world that is unique in its own right, has its own definitions of right and wrong...of good and bad.

As the lazy morning sun makes its appearance outside the window and one ray of hope after another starts filtering in through the blinds of cynicism, cupid makes it appearance as that elusive rainbow in a clear sky. And then there is the heart that is overflowing with the nectar of feelings...all the nectar meant for the moth that drinks it all up as it has to dance around the light of its life. As the ray of hope touches this heart and warms the eyes to enable them to look at the rainbow, a sort of all pervasive and wistful calmness engulfs the nature and all its creatures.

The notes of the flute whisper into the ears and the soul and body are filled with that tune of melody which, despite not being so clearly etched in memory, is yet oft-remembered for its associations. And then comes the picture...the rainbow that the heart has been staring at transforms into the picture of one's love...the heart gives a sigh and a sudden rush of blood is all that tries to resist the numbness that falls all over the body like the melting wax that forms a pool around the candle.

There is no end to it...at least the heart does not want it to end...the picture is glowing as the cupid-rainbow smiles knowingly behind it, the flute is playing music at its crescendo, the light is just enough to enable vision and yet be only comfortably intense, and the moth is sucking the nectar in innocent glory.

Love is, in deed, a wonderful feeling and though it is present all the year long in those that open up their hearts to it, Valentine's Day is one occasion where the hearts grow fonder (if that is possible) and the feelings get converted to words, expressed in the most beautiful of ways.

No romantic worth his/her salt can look at this day with the eyes of a skeptic...it is one of those rare and unexplainable moments when logic takes a back seat and all that matters is small things...holding hands...doing something just for the sake of her/him...giving little nothings as gifts...candle light dinners...dances by the moonlight...looking at each other for hours on end...making her/him believe that she/he is the most beautiful person...singing her/him a song despite a sore throat...admiring her/his slightest mannerisms or possessions...living life with her/him as if there is no tomorrow...
